“This is the dark season, the season of coming indoors and drawing close. The season of setting lights or lamps or candles where they can be seen and considered.
“Each of you is the keeper of a sacred flame: the flame that you are given when you draw your first breath and the flame you see by on your journey through this life.
“People once believed that the eye emitted the light by which the world is seen. But they were not altogether wrong in that belief. The light within you is there to guide you, and to comfort you, and to give you wisdom for your journey through this life.
“Now is the dark season when the light within you is easiest to see, the season when it is easiest to feel within you. But know that that light does not have its source within you. It was given you by your mother and father, just as it was given to them by their parents – like one candle lighting another, all the way back to the Giver of Light Himself.
“The body is the wax of that candle, the mind and the other senses are its wick. But the light that dances atop it is now what it was at the beginning and will be forever. This is the season to claim your knowledge of that light and to remember what it is for.”
