One half of the world is always in darkness, while the other half is in light. This is the simplest of truths, and yet how difficult it is for you to remember. The Earth turns and the light creeps over its face from one side, while the darkness seeps in from the other. Daybreak and dusk are continuous. There is no moment when both are not happening at once.
To suppose that you can see everything and know everything is a delusion that is disproved in every moment, just as the belief that all is random and nothing can be known is an error. The world turns in a walking rhythm on its journey around the sun. Dusk and daybreak advance eternally, and no one can stop them. No one can hold them back for so much as a single second.
To live by this rhythm is to know that you must trust the darkness even as you embrace the light. The seasons turn and you do nothing to cause them. To push time forwards through sheer will avails you nothing at all.
Each day and night bring boundless wisdom and inexhaustible sources of renewal. To wake to the dawn and surrender to the dark is the sum of human wisdom. The world is praying, and everything in it is prayer. There is no moment when you are not intimately in its care.
