I will become like the person who carries a lantern in a storm. All around Me the wind will rage, the heavens will quake, rain and hail and lightning will fall. For the one who carries a flickering lamp, there can be no thought but the task at hand. No steps but the steps they are taking now, no goal but to go forward and go on.
A storm doesn’t last forever. But a flame can go out. And so one must move surely and quickly, with confident steps, to reach a place of protection out of the wind and water.
You are that flame and it is I who carry you. The storm will be everywhere, and you will not know how to flee it. But I know its contours, its boundaries, and its duration. And I will hold you close and shelter you with My body until the wind dies, the waters recede, and the earth once more becomes a habitable home.
