“Never believe that you can UNDERSTAND prayer. Prayer is not for understanding. Never believe that you can THINK yourself inside of a prayerful state of mind. Prayer is not for thinking. Never believe that prayer is something you DO. Prayer comes to you and flows through you.
“The waters of love and the wind of the spirit press in on you from every side. To pray is to clear the channel and raise the windows so that love and spirit can come through.
“You need not worry over what to pray for. Prayer is not a duty, an assignment, or a requirement. Prayer is life. When you understand that praying is living, you will know that life has no beginning or end.
“Life lives you from the inside out. Prayer is the way that happens. So listen for the wind, and feel the force of the water. Let yourself be moved and opened and made clear. That is all you need to know.
“Think of it this way. In a river there is never just one current. A river is many currents, all flowing together. In just this way, I speak to you with one voice, but the voices within Me are many. You give a river a single name and chart its course upon a map. But its waters come from everywhere and go to everywhere. A river is always in motion. A river is always everywhere at once.
“So relax and deepen your prayer rather than trying to gain mastery over it with the mind. Pray with your feet and your body—with your lips, your fingers, and your breath. Let the wind blow where it will and the water become clear as it flows. Are you not being guided by your Mother, just as the wind and the river are?”
