Our Lady Speaks

“Listen to the bugs outside your window. You can believe that they are saying nothing, and then you live in one world. Or you can believe that they are saying something and live in another. Which world you choose to believe in determines everything about your experience of time.

“If you live in a world where only humans are sentient, you are bound by human time—which means that nearly all of the eternity before and behind you is lost and you have only human voices to guide you. Until recently, there was no one who believed that only human consciousness was real. Your ancestors had many teachers, many mentors, many lovers, and many friends. A man or a woman could travel in the wilderness and know that they were never alone.

“The insects and animals, the birds and the fishes understand all that is meaningful about you. They remember where you came from, and they know where you will go. The only thing they don’t understand is the world that you have made and now call your own. There is no precedent for such a world in their memory and they cannot foresee its future. It exists in the midst of a great sea of time like an island which they can make no sense of apart from knowing that it is wrong.

“The only real question to concern yourself with today is how to get right with these friends. You may have loving, satisfying relationships with your family, your friends, and your peers, but without the help of your older, wiser and mostly smaller friends, you will never find a way to go on. They remember what you have forgotten, they see paths that you know nothing of. They are many, even now as their number are dwindling, and comparatively you are very few. You are powerful, but the foundation for your way of life is very fragile. They are weak in terms of worldly power, and yet the world in its entirety rests upon their backs.

“You speak of gods and higher powers and ignore the power that is beneath you and all around you. That power is also within you. But to reclaim it and remember how to use it, you will need to learn how to listen to beings other than your own.”
