“For ages now people have been storing wheat in granaries, stockpiling weapons, and putting money into banks. And where has it gotten them? There will never be enough grain, enough weapons, or enough money. This is how grain and weapons and money work. Surplus leads to insecurity, insecurity leads to war, and it is by war nearly all great fortunes are made. The cycle is endless because it was never intended to accomplish anything other than to perpetuate itself.
“There is one thing and one thing only that breaks that cycle, and that is love.
“Love is the one thing you can amass, the one thing you can store, the one thing you can’t have too much of. People believe that love is held by holding onto it, others say that it grows with the giving, and both are true. But the only way to amass a great store of love is through prayer.
“Prayer loosens your hold on greed, fear, and violence, and opens the treasury of the heart. Within that treasury lies the memory of all those you have loved, and all who have loved you, clear to the bottom of time. That treasury is not like a vault – not like a stockpile, or a store room – for the more it holds, the larger it grows. With love, there is no limit on what you can have, and no limit on what you can give.
“But this can only be accomplished through prayer. The whole world and everything in it is designed for this single end, and this single activity.”
