“Spiritual wisdom is not something that can be told. To be ‘told’ wisdom is to receive it from the top down, rather than to draw it like water from the bottom up. Told wisdom always has the quality of a decree. But the wisdom you draw from the well of your own understanding is yours to drink and to use and to live.
“Like water, wisdom flows where it will and does what it must, seeking the hidden places where the eye cannot see, finding the places that lie so far down, even the heart cannot fathom them. Like water, wisdom takes life to its very depths, only to draw it back up into the light.
“You drink wine with your sacraments, but water was the first wine, the forgotten wine, the original elixir and fountain of life.
“I am bringing those waters back to you to remind you of the wisdom that you have forgot.”
