“There is a wisdom and an order in the way one leaf falls atop another, and together they lie with their backs against the ground, relaxing and easing back into the embrace of the Mother from whom they come.
“I told you before that I don’t do random, I only do love. If you know this in your heart, then you will also know that there are no wrong moves so long as you travel on the Path of Faith.
“But the Path of Faith is slow and steady. It’s a footpath, sometimes barely discernible through the forest or over the grasses of a field. It relies upon going at the pace of life rather than faster. Most of your problems stem from moving faster than the speed of life.
“You must understand that much of the world you know will soon come to a stop. After this has happened, some things will start again, while others will be dead in their tracks. Clouds, mountains, trees, tides, rivers, and streams—all of these have their rhythms and their natural pace through time.
“The closest that you can come as a human to knowing that pace is walking. It was always in walking that you were closest to an understanding of your world. Ships are just a way of walking on the water using the power of muscle or wind. But planes, trains, and automobiles have no wisdom in them whatsoever—whatever you might say in their favor. When you were riding on horses or donkeys, or oxen or elephants, those animals walked beneath you, and so there was still a rhythm to your contact with the Earth. But where is the rhythm of a highway or rail? Birds have wingbeats, like steps in walking, but aviators and passengers experience nothing of this kind.
“The rhythm of walking guided you then. It can guide you now.
“I heard you say [to friends who were visiting that night] that you don’t know what to do now—that NOBODY knows what to do in the face of so much change, uncertainty, and danger. But you DO know what to do. Everybody does.
“There is no problem that cannot be solved by moving at the speed of life. Neither faster, nor slower. The rhythm of your footsteps is the heartbeat of the Earth.”
